Masterclass
The Children's Production Support Hub join us to lead an exclusive session on safely working with children in Film & HETV.
Working with children is both privilege and a joy, but comes with significant responsibilities and commitments. Creating a robust structure and culture is essential to cast and crew's safeguarding and your legal responsibilities around child licensing.
This session will help support you and your production in bridging the gaps between Department for Education (DfE), child performance regulations, and production processes from casting through to wrap. It begins in pre-production, exploring how productions can identify and mitigate potential risks by reviewing scripts, assessing child performance requirements, and planning appropriate safeguarding measures.

About our speakers:
Arlene De Cruz has 19 years experience supporting productions and safeguarding children across the creative industries. She has founded and led three specialist organisations, including the UK's first accredited training course in child performance regulations for production crews. Arlene also helped shape amendments to child performance regulations in England and Scotland, and founded the BECTU Professional Chaperones and Tutors Branch. Today, Arlene continues to support productions through specialist safeguarding, licensing, education and compliance services.
Paul Byrne bring extensive experience across education, training, management and pastoral care, working with young people up to 18 in schools, residential settings and on productions. Paul has held senior positions including Pastoral Manager, Head of Year, Centre Director and Vice-Chair of Governors, as well as establishing a secondary education division for a major UK recruitment firm. Paul is Chair of the BECTU Broadcast Chaperones and Tutors Branch and works closely with Arlene on The Children's Production Support Hub and training production teams.
