This course will cover the analysis of budget, comparison of costs to budget, creating a miniature cost report to report the position and how to forecast final costs from limited information. It will explore ways to communicate financial information to creatives and how to get valuable information from them. It will also cover ways of finding out information as well as how to interpret that information.

This is a course for assistant accountants who might find themselves being made responsible for an entire departmental budget. It will look at the role of the construction accountant and VFX accountant and ways to monitor departmental budgets such as set dec or SFX.

Payroll

These are a range of courses giving a comprehensive overview of efficient payroll processes and the implications of the PACT/Bectu agreements. Subjects include basic understanding of cast/stunts and crew/dallies and construction payroll, understanding and cutting timesheets, establishing the difference between industry agreements, running payrolls: timing, deadlines, getting organised, finding your system, construction payroll: layout of the contract, US studios regulations, IR35 updates, useful links.

Locations

Locations Assistant

This course is designed to prepare you for working in the locations department in the film and TV industry. The location department has a wide and varied remit within a film production: from the creative beginnings starting with script breakdown, working with directors and designers and scouting locations, to the logistical and detailed planning of the shoot, enabling all other departments to go about their jobs as smoothly and safely as possible.

Assistant Location Manager

This course gives you the skills and experience necessary to take your career to the next level. You will work closely with experienced film and TV location managers throughout the course and will share their experience and knowledge through practical on set learning, online learning, classroom learning and through one to one mentor support.

Pathway to Location Management

The course is aimed at locations assistants who have some work experience and may already be employed on productions. The course will give trainees the opportunity to develop, their knowledge and skills to prepare them for future location manager positions. By shadowing a location manager and taking responsibility for limited location management tasks under supervision on a live production; participants will gain practical experience and professional development.

Budgeting for Assistant Location Managers

This course is aimed at assistant location managers hoping to step up, location managers who have recently stepped up but need reassurance over their budgeting, and even for assistant location managers who just want an understanding of the budgeting process so they can help their Location managers. By the end of the day, attendees will understand what an accountant and Line Producer need from a budget and hints and tricks to prevent calculation errors.

Production Management

The course covers the key role and responsibilities of the production manager and enables participants to develop the legal knowledge, practical skills and competencies that every successful production manager needs. Aimed at participants with experience of production, the course is ideal for people who want to learn the role from scratch as well as more experienced professionals seeking to use their existing knowledge to transition to production management including: location managers, 1st and 2nd assistant directors, production co-ordinators, production accountants and post-production supervisors.

The Production Guild of Great Britain's Runners training is designed to prepare you for working in the film and TV drama industry. Movie Magic Budgeting and Scheduling

These courses are designed for people working in production, especially emerging producers, line producers, production managers, accountants, and emerging 1st ADs.

 

This is a hands-on introduction to Movie Magic (Budgeting 10 and Scheduling 6). No previous experience is needed but basic computer literacy and a familiarity with film/TV production basics is assumed. 

 

Budgeting training includes practice in breaking down a narrative script and extracting data from the script at a level of detail required to build industry standard budgets and schedules. By the end of the course, you will have a greater understanding of the whole budgeting process and feel confident about starting to use Movie Magic Budgeting software on your own productions.

 

Scheduling training includes practice in breaking down a narrative script and extracting data from the script at a level of detail required to build industry standard budgets and schedules. By the end of the course, you will have a greater understanding of the whole scheduling process and feel confident about starting to use Movie Magic Scheduling software on your own productions.
