Having a solid 2nd AD has a massive impact on the smooth-running of any production. This one-day course covers all
aspects of this key role in any crew. The course is run by Steve Crabtree, with the participation of Mike Williams, in partnership with the AD Guild.
We’ll look at why the role is so important, and delve into the various elements of what they do to keep the bus moving in the right direction. A lot of the role of a 2nd AD is about relationship management so we’ll touch on which relationships are key to a successful shoot; alongside what is expected of any 2nd AD from day one of prep, to the shoot’s wrap, and beyond.
In terms of crowd management, we look at the whole process from script breakdown, to making the budget go as far as it can, to looking after the SAs on set.
We will take some time to go through the intricacies of creating a call sheet from scratch, with some practical hands-on experience of working through a busy day. In terms of documents, we’ll also look into various industry standards to be aware of, how to access crucial information and who the relevant organisations are for a variety of situations.
