The Production Guild of Great Britain (PGGB) has today opened nominations for the new 2020 PGGB Innovation Awards, in association with Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, which will commend the innovative work of PGGB members who have navigated new ways of working to keep UK production moving forward during lockdown.

The Awards will celebrate the achievements of PGGB members working in film or television drama in the fields of the production office, accounts, locations, assistant directing, post production or VFX, who have shown exceptional resilience and resourcefulness in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic since March 2020.

Professor Lyndsay Duthie, CEO of PGGB says, “The past six months have been the most challenging in UK production history. At a time when lockdown forced the booming production industry to pause so suddenly in territories across the world, the global production community reeled. The UK’s world-leading production professionals were quick to pull together to show their resilience and commitment to getting production moving again as quickly as possible. From major feature films to High End TV and groundbreaking technical advances, there have been so many inspiring examples of our members being at the forefront of this industry’s response to the pandemic. We look forward to acknowledging their work at our new PGGB Innovation Awards in November.”

PGGB Chair, Producer Alex Boden says: “Our new PGGB Innovation Awards shine a light on the creativity and resourcefulness of our members who continue to develop new ways of working, keeping the UK at the cutting-edge of global production.”

The three categories are:

  • The PGGB Innovation Award for Production Team, sponsored by Warner Bros Studios Leavesden
  • The PGGB Innovation Award for an Individual, sponsored by Netflix
  • The PGGB Special Recognition Award, sponsored by MBSi

Nominations for the awards, which can be made by PGGB members, will close on 8th October with the online awards ceremony streaming live via the PGGB YouTube Channel on 26 November at 6.30pm, open to all to view. The awards take place in the 21st year since PGGB’s inception, and to mark this anniversary PGGB members will be mailed a special ‘event kit’ sponsored by Panavision, so that they can fully participate in the virtual ceremony.

Productions must have taken place between March – September 2020 and can be at any stage, from pre production, to production, to post-production. Awards will be judged by an invited jury comprising PGGB membership and board members.

The PGGB Innovation Awards replace the regular PGGB Awards which take place biannually in September. 2018 winners included 1st AD Gareth Tandy, Assistant Accountant Ruby Avards and the production team behind Woody Harrelson’s directorial debut Lost in London. The late John Sargent and his wife Marija were joint recipients of the Contribution to the Industry award.
