The FILM OFFICER will help realise the ambitious plans that celebrate Devon. It is a vital role
within Screen Devon supporting the creative industries, adding to the county’s economic and
cultural offer and it will play an important part in the newly established film office helping to
maximise the economic and social benefits of film on location in Devon.
Film Officer duties and responsibilities:
● Respond quickly to enquiries from production teams wanting to shoot in Devon. Share
advice and solutions to support their projects while promoting and maintaining a
film-friendly environment to an outstanding industry standard.
● Develop and oversee the creation of systems such as crew and supplier databases,
location directories and provide expert knowledge keeping systems relevant, accurate
and within GDPR standards. Help on-board new crew, locations and suppliers.
● Work with Local Authority partners to develop and oversee efficient filming application
processes ensuring assessment of appropriate documentation, permissions and permits
as required and advising on Film Code of Conduct.
● Build and maintain effective working relationships with key personnel across the county
in multiple council departments such as highways, country parks, planning, property and
with key Local Authority partners to support the efficient facilitation of location filming and
a film friendly approach across Devon.
● Support Screen Devon Manger in the development and maintenance of policies,
sustainable practice guides and a Filming in Devon Code of Conduct. Making sure that
productions visiting and shooting in Devon make a positive impact.
● Support the Manager with the planning and delivery of Screen Devon events.
● Deliver Screen Devon’s marketing strategy. Promote the activity of Screen Devon and
partners for the best ongoing long-term effect. Maintain and update Screen Devon
website, social media channels and newsletter. Identifying positive news stories and
seeking permissions to platform productions that take place in Devon.
● Assist the General Manager of Screen Devon in funding applications. Track production
activity and lead on data collection for economic impact and local hires to share with
partners including Creative England data and BFI. Report on Local Authority KPIs.
● Represent Screen Devon at national, regional and local meetings, industry events and
report back to the General Manager to maintain Screen Devon’s industry best-practice
knowledge and strong networks.
● Working with new and existing partners to identify regional skills gaps and geographical
spread. Develop programmes to support the development of those working in the
industry across all levels of experience.
● Promote an inclusive and welcoming environment for partners, contributors and
stakeholders.
PERSONAL PROFILE
Essential:
● Strong organisational skills and ability to be responsive, self-starting and flexible. Good
problem solver with evidence of operating as a self-starter as you will be helping to
establish a new film office.
● Strong interpersonal skills with experience in building and negotiating new partnerships
and sustaining relationships at all levels.
● Experience of fundraising, income generation and/or business development. A proven
track record of managing budgets.
● Awareness of the screen sector on a regional and national scale with experience or
working in a film office or similar environment. Demonstrable experience in and
up-to-date knowledge of the Film/TV production industry including locations/production
logistics.
● Understanding of local authorities and how they work
● Excellent written, interpersonal, organisation and communication skills, and ability to
work in an efficient, confident and tactful way

● Knowledge of managing websites, newsletters and social media platforms.
● Ability to work flexibly with some weekends and unsociable hours expected.
Desirable:
● Understanding of the Creative Industries across the film ecosystem in Devon.
