PGGB Announces Members of New Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Committee

Wed 9th Oct 2024

The Production Guild of Great Britain has announced the seven members of a new Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee, in its continued efforts to raise standards of diversity and inclusion below-the-line in the UK’s feature film and HETV industries.

The EDI Committee is chaired by Valeria Bullo, an experienced Production Wellbeing and Inclusion Consultant who has worked tirelessly throughout her career to make the industry a kinder, more inclusive and healthier place to work. Joining Valeria as Vice-Chairs are Line Producer Benjamin Greenacre and Location Manager Georgette Turner. Producer Andy Noble, Line Producer Cyrus Patel, 1st Assistant Director Ben Hughes and Universal International Studios VP Production Laura Burrows complete the committee.

PGGB CEO Lyndsay Duthie said: “Improving diversity and inclusion in the film and TV workforce must underpin all that we do. This new EDI committee brings together respected voices from across the production landscape.  I know they will help us move forward with initiatives that will break down barriers and create pathways for under-represented talent to improve the industry for current and future generations.”

PGGB’s new EDI Committee Chair Valeria Bullo, who recently received the Diversity and Inclusion Champion accolade at the biennial PGGB Awards, said: “I am passionate about improving the ways we work in production across film and TV. I believe that meaningful change is essential for creating an industry where everyone feels valued and represented. Being part of this committee will allow me to collaborate with like-minded peers who share the same commitment to fostering positive change within the PGGB Membership and beyond. Together, we can drive initiatives that not only enhance our industry’s culture but also open doors for new voices and perspectives, ensuring that we make a lasting and tangible impact.”

The Committee will make its first joint appearance at the Talent Mixer, an event created in partnership between PGGB and Universal International Studios, taking place on Wednesday 6th November at NBC Universal’s space at Central St. Giles in London.

The EDI Committee will build on the work of PGGB initiatives including the annual Talent Showcase, the centrepiece of which is the presentation of The Duke of Edinburgh Film & TV Inclusion Award, which shines a light on inspirational organisations who progress inclusion in the UK’s production workforce. Million Youth Media received the 2024 award in February of this year, and the next Talent Showcase is scheduled to take place in March 2025.

PGGB’s first action group for EDI, the Diversity and Inclusion Action Group (DIAG), was launched in 2020. This new committee brings PGGB’s work on diversity and inclusion into line with its other industry-focused initiatives, including the six Nations & Regions groups and Sustainability Committee. This smaller group will allow for more focused and specific action and activities.
