Why ACCELERATE 2025 Matters

The UK screen industry currently produces nearly 175,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually – equivalent to the yearly emissions of 40,000 UK citizens. While this shows the scale of the challenge, it also highlights the huge opportunity we have to make a positive impact.

What’s in the Report?

Based on data from over 2,500 productions in 2024, ACCELERATE 2025 focuses on five key areas where the industry can take meaningful action to reduce carbon emissions: Travel, Energy, Materials and Waste, Culture, and Data.

The report calls for an urgent reduction in flight travel, switching fuel-powered transport to electric and eliminating fuel-powered generators on location. It emphasises the need for the industry to come together and take collective responsibility for operating more sustainably, with culture change led from the top and supported by those on screen. It also outlines the importance of better, more accurate data to track the progress and fill in gaps in under-reported areas like waste.
