Pinewood MBS Lighting deliver LED support to Gaffer Martin Smith

Mon 28th Jan 2019

Filmed with Cinematographer Bojan Bazelli, principal photography has wrapped on 6 Underground having taken the crew across a number of international locations, including multiple sets in Italy and the United Arab Emirates.

Speaking about lighting the project, Gaffer Martin Smith said “For 6 Underground we had terrific support from the production’s lighting equipment provider, Panalight. We also had additional assistance from the team at Pinewood MBS Lighting, particularly with the Chroma-Q® Brute Force™ and the huge amount of control equipment that we used throughout the shoot”.

A keen advocate of low energy lighting solutions, Martin was eager to explore the Brute Force™, the newly introduced LED alternative to the traditional quarter WendyLight developed through a collaboration between the PMBS innovations think-tank, MBSi and specialist LED equipment manufacturer Chroma-Q®.

Having discussed the project with the Gaffer, PMBS invested in a fresh batch of Brute Force™ fixtures, built specifically for the production.

Martin continues “I knew I wanted to use the Chroma-Q® Brute Force™ but also knew it was a relatively new product. Fortunately, Pinewood MBS were able to get ten units delivered straight to the set in Rome, on time and ready for use, complete with weather covers, which came in handy.”

Working with Desk Op Dan Walters and Practicals Electrician James McGee, PMBS also provided control equipment used by the crew over a square kilometer on the production’s large scale sets.

“The support we received from Pinewood MBS has been fantastic. They really did make sure I got the tools I needed for the job. I’ve been particularly impressed with the Brute Force™, a great LED product with good quality of light. If you know exactly the results you are looking for, then these versatile fixtures really can deliver. We used them throughout the whole shoot, on pretty much every scene.”

PMBS Sales Director Justin Bennett commented “We are delighted to have supported Martin on 6 Underground, particularly with his use of low energy lighting. Our technical team worked closely with the crew to ensure we provided exactly the equipment and support they needed. It’s rewarding to know that our investment made for the production has been so well received”.
