Training Manager

Purpose of role:

To supporting the growth of NFTS activity across Scotland through: 

• Managing key aspects of the Scottish Broadcast Training Programme (SBTP), a year-long training and placement programme. The initial cohort will involve six participants but this may increase in subsequent iterations of the programme.
• Providing additional support to NFTS Scotland in designing, delivering and evaluating new training initiatives at a number of locations across Scotland

Core duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Scottish Broadcast Training Programme 

• Work with the Head of NFTS Scotland to plan and deliver SBPT, supporting trainees through the programme and engaging with industry partners to plan placements and meet the development and training needs of participants.
• Monitor the development and progress of each participant during the placements as they progress through the programme in collaboration with participants’ mentors
• Organise logistics, travel and accommodation for participant activity where required 
• Be the main point of contact with industry and programme partners, managing the ongoing relationships and matching opportunities to satisfy the needs of productions and SBTP participants
• Have overall responsibility for administration of placements with industry partners, including coordinating placements to ensure that all participants secure suitable experiences that contribute to their development 
• Offer effective pastoral care to participants as needs arise, including supporting participants with any issues related to industry placements and ensuring the participants have an inclusive experience throughout the training programme and at the NFTS
• Communicate and liaise regularly with industry partners, collaborating with them to ensure the aims of the programme are met and carrying out placement visits as required
• Support participants in building a portfolio of evidence to help them secure roles within the industry following their time on the programme, and work with industry partners to share future job opportunities
• Support the Head of NFTS Scotland in reporting to the NFTS Management team and external stakeholders as required, keep the Head of NFTS Scotland informed of all relevant programme activities and work closely with the Head of NFTS Scotland to maintain budgetary control
• Provide all relevant data as required by Screen Scotland including tracking and evaluations

NFTS Scotland Training Activity

• Liaise with Head of NFTS Scotland (and Development Manager) to support the expansion of NFTS Scotland training activity to be delivered at additional NFTS Scotland sites and implement comprehensive and cost-effective student recruitment activities relating to new training activity.
• Support the Head of NFTS Scotland as required in tutor recruitment, booking and contracting.
• Implement training as required across NFTS Scotland sites including booking rooms, studios, equipment, materials, transport and accommodation. 
• Maintain budgetary control of relevant activity and keep within financial limits, through effective income and expenditure monitoring and tracking processes.
• Ensure the Head of NFTS Scotland is fully informed of relevant training activities. 
• Attend training in order to support the tutoras required.
• Create risk assessments for training and attend any health and safety training sessions required. 
• Ensure all students are kept fully informed and updated.
• Prepare paperwork for and coordinate feedback, progress reviews and external assessments where required.
• Provide support for NFTS Scotland events in person and online where required.
• Contribute to ensuring that the quality of the student experience on NFTS Scotland courses starts and remains high and that outcomes remain consistent with those of a world-leading film, TV and games school.
• Any other responsibilities to support NFTS Scotland as required.

Person Specification:

Skills/experience required:

• This post requires someone with solid understanding, knowledge and practical experience of the industry 
• Experience of managing and supporting groups of diverse trainees during training and while on placements.
• Experience of designing and delivering new training initiatives
• Highly organised
• Outstanding communications (both written and oral) and influencing and interpersonal skills for internal and external audiences
• Comfortable dealing with senior stakeholders
• Clear commitment to working as a team player
• Self-starter who is comfortable managing multiple tasks
• Ability to deliver to deadline and budget
• Commitment to driving diversity within the Film and TV industry
• Ability to engage with industry partners and other departments at the NFTS as collaboration is key to success at the NFTS
