We are looking for a freelance project manager to lead the delivery of our BFI Film Academy Specialist Hair, Wigs, Make Up and Prosthetics Course.
As we go into our second year delivering the BFI Film Academy Specialist Course, we are looking for an organised Project Manager to oversee its delivery. The role will include promoting the opportunity to 16-19 year olds across the UK, managing participant recruitment and selection processes and operational delivery of the course. You don't need Hair & Make Up knowledge (though an interest helps!) we are looking for first rate organisational, budgeting and communication skills.
Role Purpose + Description
London Screen Academy has been awarded funding from the BFI to deliver a Specialist Hair & Make Up residential course for 25 participants aged 16-19 over the Easter Holidays in 2026. We are looking for a freelance Project Manager to oversee all aspects of the programme programme including the marketing and promotion of the course, recruitment of participants, safe onboarding of participants, logistical management of the course on-site, budget management and evaluation.
The Project Manager will join LSA’s Lead Hair & Make Up teacher and LSA’s Director of Careers & Alumni on the project team, who will jointly be responsible for the successful delivery of the course.
Role Responsibilities
- Coordinate the marketing and promotion of the course to 16-19 year olds across the UK
- Manage the participant recruitment process, including reviewing applications and working with
LSA’s Lead Tutor to identify the most suitable applicants for the course - Onboarding successful applicants to the the programme, arranging travel, accommodation and
any access support needed - Planning and delivering all logistical aspects of the course alongside LSA’s Lead Tutor and
Director of Careers & Alumni - Planning and delivering extra-curricular activities such as theatre trips or set visits
- Managing any other freelance staff brought on board to support the project (youth workers,
photographers, Hair & Make Up Tutors etc) - Working with LSA’s Designated Safeguarding Lead to ensure all participants are appropriately
supported during the course, recruiting additional staff as required - Keeping track of spend, managing the course budget and completing BFI drawdown
paperwork - Capturing participant feedback and end of activity reporting to the BFI Film Academy Team.

- High level of organisational skills and self management
- Ability to work with a range of people, from young people to high profile industry partners
- Strong computer skills - GSuite, Canva, AirTable, Substack
- Strong understanding of Equality, Diversity & Inclusion and ensuring the creative industries
accessible to all.
Required experience:
- Relevant Project Management experience, or evidence of strong organisational and budget
management skills
Desired experience:
- Experience in an educational setting, or and understanding of safeguarding 16 - 19 year
olds - Understanding of the Hair & Make Up Department in Film & TV, though this is not essential.
