Series 1 Episode 3:
Ronni Ancona & Sally Phillips

Captain Dolly is a brand-new production company from the minds of the multi award-winning actresses Sally Phillips and Ronni Ancona. Mainstays of British TV and Film for over 25 years, their vast experience includes: BRIDGET JONES’ DIARY, Last Tango in Halifax, PENELOPE, Veep and Miranda. Together, with experienced producer Nick Hamson, they have created Captain Dolly, an innovative, fresh and exciting take on TV and Film production.

Sally Phillips is one of Britain’s best known comic talents with twenty-five years of credits in film and television including the BRIDGET JONES trilogy, Veep, I’m Alan Partridge, Green Wing, Taskmaster and Miranda. She co-created the double Emmy Award winning Smack the Pony and wrote THE DECOY BRIDE. She has also won awards for screenwriting and documentary making and is a passionate disability advocate. In 2016 she fronted the documentary A World Without Down’s Syndrome? (BBC2), exploring the ethical implications of our national screening policy. It won the Radio Times Readers Awards and Sanford St Martin awards for the Best Single Documentary and was shown around the world. The success of this has led to contributions to The Nuffield Council Report, invitations to speak to midwives, gynaecologists, politicians and philosophers globally and she continues to be a vocal disability advocate.

Ronni Ancona first became known for her work on the BAFTA winning The Big Impression series with Alistair McGowan for which she won the British Comedy Award for Best Actress and the prestigious Variety Club Award. She also received a BAFTA for her performance in The Sketch Show which she also co-wrote. She has worked extensively in both comedy and drama. Her numerous television and film credits include: Last Tango In Halifax (4 series and Christmas special); The Trip, Skins, Ronni Ancona & Co (own series), SURVIVING CHRISTMAS; and PENELOPE. She has also made many regular appearances as a panellist on QI (BBC) over 10 years and has hosted Have I Got News For You (BBC). Ronni’s show with Lewis MacLeod, 'Just Checking in', had a completely sold-out season at the Edinburgh Festival this year. She has just finished filming Last Tango in Halifax (series 5) where she reprises the role of Judith and will air next year on BBC1.
