Leadership and Negotiation


This workshop aims to help attendees purposefully improve their individual ability to negotiate and lead. 

In this industry we constantly need to negotiate - contracts, credits, rates of pay, our terms of contract. Yet often when it comes to negotiating for ourselves, we can find it awkward or difficult to ask for what we think we deserve. This workshop will cover the key strategies to a successful and positive negotiation. The course will focus on the influencing skills for leadership and negotiation.

Influence is critical to success whether you need to make a deal, ask for a rise, bring in change, sort out differences of opinion or convince someone to do what you ask. Any of these might come under the heading of ‘difficult’ situations, but what can you do to make it less daunting, and increase your chances of success?

In this workshop we’ll introduce ways to help you to prepare for and manage situations where you know what you want and need, but the other party sees it differently. Using a mix of discussion and exercises we’ll cover the principles of negotiation and try out some practical tools that you apply to any situation.


Linda Cockburn is a facilitator, trainer and coach with a media background. During her time at the BBC she moved from research into new media, then to the BBC Academy, working with teams across tv, radio and digital to support the development of new ideas. As a consultant, she has worked with leaders and teams from Hit TV and Film London to DCMS and Welsh National Opera, offering them clear processes to generate better ways of working. Over the last two years she has trained radio producers to pitch for new work, and helped secure more than £1 million worth of commissions. Linda holds an MSc. in training and development for adults, is a Henley certified facilitator and an accredited coach. She’s a partner at Leading Ideas, a creativity and communication consultancy.
